[experiment TWO: the monument] another axo developed in sketchup.

After putting the first two monuments into cE3, i could see what worked better in the environment and how they may be interacted with. from there i began to think about reworking some aspects of the designs of monuments. i went back to my original axometrics + whilst i was intially happy with the choices i made, i decided to develop another axometric to keep finding new ideas to perhaps replace or inspire changes in the othe rtwo as well.
Below is the original axometric for 'undulating' [frei otto], followed by the initial translation of that into sketchup. with the axo i was trying to imagine long, flat rectangular planes/states, bonded together by the central rectangle to create a stable state [per class discussion].

From these very basic beginnings, i began to think more about how the undulating form was to be represented per class discussion. 'static/stable states - tensile models as basis for creating aerodynamic undulating forms'. with this in mind i kept the basis of the design as an overall undulating series of platforms. but as an attempt at representing the rectangles as 5 separate static/stable states, i began to carve them out + interwove each rectangle further. so that each individual static rectangle bonded together to create a whole stable state. i also thought by allowing openings through the monument, it would continue the airflow around the monument and not stop it. i was trying to capture the essence of otto's undulating domes/stadia here whilst maintaining the rectangular shapes. the planes still undulate upwards in the developed design, encouraging seating at the varying planes as per the initial sketch. i would hope this may encourage the monument to be interacted with + perhaps be used as a meeting/ discussion point in a custom ce3 environment.
In the images below, i have quickly rendered them in sketchup using a custom texture + basic paint.

now to put into cE3.. stay tuned..
